Public Enemies Loot Event – Facts and Trivia
Dec/090
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Zynga runs many events and for the most part we just look at them as a way to get new items or level faster and could care less about the story behind the event. I don’t know about you but I like to know what is behind the event. Call me nosy if you will.
Since Zynga is running the Public Enemies Loot Event I thought I would dig up some interesting trivia on the main character, John Dillinger.
- John Herbert Dillinger was born on June 22nd, 1903 in Indianapolis, IN to John Wayne Dillinger and his wife Mary Ellen (Mollie).
- Dillinger’s first bank robbery took place on June 10th, 1933 in New Carlisle, OH and netted him a whopping $10,000. That was quite a large amount in that time.
- On June 22nd, 1934 John was given a very special birthday present by the United States, he was named Public Enemy #1.
- Over the years Dillinger worked with a number of notable criminals including Lester Joseph Gillis (Baby Face Nelson), Homer “Wayne” Van Meter, and Charles Arhur “Pretty Boy” Floyd.
- The United States Justice Department offered a whopping $15,000 for the capture of Dillinger or $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. In 1933 the average family income was $11,342.
- In about one year Dillinger and his associates held up dozens of banks and took c lose to half a million dollars. During that time they killed 10 and wounded 7 others.
- Dillinger was killed after being set up by the infamous “Woman in Red.” The woman was Anna Sage (real name Ana Cumpanas) who was a former brothel owner from Gary Indiana.
- Allegedly the Feds cheated Anna Sage out of the $70,000 that they promised her to fingering Dillinger.
- Dillinger was killed after watching the movie “Manhattan Melodrama” starring Clark Gable and William Powell with his girlfriend, Dolly Hamilton at the Biograph Theater located at 2433 N. Lincoln Ave.
- The Biograph Theater went out of business in July of 1974.
- Melvin H. “Little Mel” Pervis was the FBI agent who lead the manhunt for Dillinger. He committed suicide on February 29th, 1960.
- Dillinger was shot 4 times. The FBI Agents credited with shooting at Dillinger were Charles B. Winstead, Clareence O. Hurt, and Herman E. Hollis.
- Dillinger died with $7.70 in his pocket.
- Dillinger’s body was taken to Alexian Brother Hospital and was pronounced dead. The agents laid his body on the lawn in front of the hospital while waiting for the Cook County Coroner’s Office to pick it up.
- According to the Library of Congress and Bowker’s Books in Print Database 16 songs have been written about Dillinger along with 17 books.
- On July 25th, 1934 John Herbert Dillinger was laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis Indiana.
While these facts may not be helpful when playing Mafia Wars they give you a bit of insight into the may who was Public Enemy #1 in 1934 and has been the subject of many songs, books, and motion pictures over the years.
Mafia Wars Public Enemies Loot Event
Dec/090
On Sunday December 6th at 12:01 AM (Pacific Time) the Public Enemies Loot Event Began. This event is rather short and is only going to be around for 3 days, ending on December 9th at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time).
This event is being rolled out with what seems to be a move on Zynga’s part to create even more income streams by selling videos. The video for this loot event is of course Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp.
Here is a list of the items that you can get your hands on during the event along with their stats.

Some of the items are re-issues of current items while others are new and reflect the movie and John Dillinger himself.
If you want to get these items you need to act quickly since the event is only three days long. Zynga says, “all jobs and fights have a chance to give you special Public Enemies themed loot items.” With this statement in mind you might want to head back to New York and the Street Thug Tier and do Mugging.
I conducted a test that determined which was more effective. In this test I did 100 jobs and 100 fights so I could give you the best avenue to build up large amounts of these items in the short time that the event will be active. Here are the results.
- Jobs – 4 drops in 100 jobs or a 4% chance of getting an item.
- Fights – 3 drops in 100 fights or a 3% chance of an item drop.
It seems that doing jobs is the better way of the two. My suggestion is to go back to New York and do the “Mugging” job on the Street Thug tier if you want to build up these items for use by your mafia.
Racketeering in Mafia Wars – A Primer
Dec/090
Recently Zynga has been experimenting with Rackets as an eventual replacement for properties. At this time not all accounts have access to them. Some established accounts have been converted and a percentage of new accounts come equipped with rackets instead of properties.
Out of over a dozen established accounts none of mine have been converted to rackets and as a test I created 6 new accounts and only one was given rackets instead of properties, so it would appear that this feature is being tested on a very small percentage of accounts.
Rackets are different than owing properties in that you must return within a specific time period to collect your cash. The time frames are 4, 8, 22, 24, and 65 hours. In my opinion requiring players to return within a time frame or risk being busted by the cops (lose all money) will make it more difficult for some to earn money. Many people only log into Mafia Wars once or twice per day. Perhaps rackets and their time frames is Zynga’s way of getting their advertising in front of members more often.
Along with the implementation of rackets we have been given another skill pool to divide our skill points among. Influence is the new pool and is the “currency” used in racketeering. Each racket costs a specific amount of influence in order to run. Many players, my self included believe that this additional pool will cause characters to be weaker since there is less to spend on attack and defense.
When starting out you will have access to a few rackets that you can run. You must master each of them to open up new rackets. Some rackets are only available based on level and again must be mastered to open up more advanced versions.
Here is a quick list of the rackets that are available along with their prerequisites and rewards.

Personally I find that I both like and dislike rackets. I dislike them because they seem rather slow and clunky to start as well as weakening my characters because they have to spend skill points on yet another skill pool. I like rackets because once you attain higher levels and advanced forms of them the boosts are pretty handy. Getting boosts without having to re-vault items makes things easier.
When it comes down to it my opinion is irrelevant. If you have access to rackets spend some time learning how to make them work for you. Since rackets are in beta feel free to post you thoughts on the Mafia Wars forums. Love them or hate them, let Zynga know what you think.
Understanding Attack and Defense Numbers in Mafia Wars
Dec/090
A have received a few emails lately asking if I would talk a bit about attack and defense statistics and what they really mean. I will do my best to explain and show you which items you should be concentrating on.
Weapons, Armor and Vehicles are important when attacking and defending but they are not the only things that you need to have. The most important item that you can have is a full strong mafia of 501 members. There are many ways that you can grow your mafia and I discuss them in detail in The Ultimate Mafia Wars Leveling Guide.
When attacking or defending each of your 501 mafia members brings 1 weapon, 1 armor item, and 1 vehicle and you must provide the items. When attacking your members will be using the items that you have with the best attack score. If you do not have 501 of the best items the game some of your mafia will be given lesser items in descending order. The same holds true for defending. The game will hand out the best defensive score items that you have and then work its way down. As you can see having the best of both offensive and defensive items is paramount if you want to control your own destiny in Mafia Wars.
To help you find the best items in the game I have listed them below. You will find a list of the top 25 items of each type, offensive and defensive. Since not everyone wants to fork over real money for Godfather Points or has been around for crates or holiday events I have also included a version that displays the top 25 looted items for each stat.

Experimental Crates – New Weapons, Armor and Vehicles in Mafia Wars
Dec/090
Right now you can get your hands on some very nice items by purchasing Experimental Crates. They went on sale on November 10th and it is unknown when the sale will be over.
The cost for these crates must be paid in Godfather Points (Reward Points) and are as follows.
One Crate – 20 Points
Three Crates – 55 Points
In the crates are weapons, armor and vehicles. Some are good and others so-so.
When purchasing an Experimental Crate you have the following chance of finding the best items.
60% chance for common items
30% chance for uncommon items
10% chance for rare items
The chance remains the same regardless of purchasing one or three crates.
Here is a quick list of items that may be found in the crates.

Most of the items are not that great, as it seems to be with all crates but the Chevalier Exoskeleton and the Executioner Drone are quite nice. Unfortunately the only way to get these items is to spend Godfather Points and as we all know these points are earned very slowly by playing the game or by purchasing them.
I have never purchased points and never intend to, but you never know, something truly wonderful may come along and I could change my mind. If you have points built up and want to take a chance on getting some fairly unique loot then maybe crates are your cup of tea.
