Mafia Wars Tips and Strategy Blog

If you have been playing Zynga’s Mafia Wars and or reading this blog for any length of time you know that building a super strong mafia is very important. When it comes to fighting or defending against other players the size of you mafia and their equipment is very important.

Let me recap some of my other posts by refreshing your memory on how to build your mafia.

1. Ask real life friends or co-workers to join your mafia.
2. Send an invite to all of your friends on your social network. (Facebook, Myspace, etc.)
3. Search you social network for “add me” groups and post a message asking to be added to the mafia or other players.
4. Use “add me” email lists to ask other players to join your mafia.

All of these methods are good ways to grow your mafia, but Zynga has now implemented a way that can help you as well.

When I logged in a few days ago and noticed a new selector on the add friends page in Mafia Wars. In addition to the normal tabs (Mafia Wars Friends and Facebook Friends) there is now a tab called “FarmVille Friends.” So I thought that I would check it out on some of the other Zynga games that I play and sure enough some of them have a tab that says “Mafia Wars” friends.

This tab is going to be quite helpful when trying to grow your mafia, especially for those who came to Mafia Wars through playing other Zynga games. The tab gives them the ability to tap into the friends base that they have already built in other games and convert them to Mafia Wars players and more importantly mafia members.

Remember that building a large mafia and equipping them with the best that the game has to offer is sure to make you a hard target. Use any or all of the methods listed in this post and keep your eyes open for potential members in other games that you play.

With the release of the Bangkok expansion Zynga tossed a monkey wrench into the mix in the form of reputation based businesses. We were introduced to factions in the Moscow expansion in which we had to choose a side to fight for. Well in the Bangkok expansion we not only have a choice to make in doing jobs but in businesses as well. With a faction based expansion one might think that there is no way to become trusted with both but that thinking in wrong. Zynga stated the following in their Mafia Wars Bangkok FAQ.

“Q: Can I max out my reputation with both factions in Bangkok?

Today you are going to learn how to get started maxing out both reputations.

As it stands at the moment you cannot reach the maximum of 1500 reputation with both sides but you can end up with one faction at 1500 and the other at 1499 simply by doing jobs and fighting other players.

To get started you need to work both sides of the fence so to speak. Start out doing jobs for one side and then switch to the other. Completing a job for the Yakuza will award you with +3 Yakuza reputation and -1 Triad. Doing jobs for the Triad is just the reverse. You are going to do a great deal of bouncing back and forth to get you reputation to near maximum levels.

Another way to work both factions is through fighting players of the opposing faction. When you fight a player of the opposing faction and win you are rewarded with +2 reputation to the faction you are fighting for and -1 for the opposing faction. Using this method is easy if you set up a “whipping boy” character for each reputation. This method requires that you create 2 new accounts and level each until they can go to Bangkok and then make one Yakuza and the other Triad. You can then fight them repeatedly to work either reputation without worrying about losing.

As stated above you can not max out both factions using either of these methods. One will be 1500 and the other 1499. The way to finally reach 1500 in both is to use Godfather Points to purchase +50 points for the 1499 point reputation. Maxing out both Triad and Yakuza reputations is indeed possible.

I learned of a way that you can use to get multiple mastery items in Mafia Wars Bangkok and thought that I should pass it on to you.

First, the episode that you working in must be fully mastered with level 4 completed. If the episode is not complete this trick will not work.

• Go to the Bangkok jobs section, Commandant episode 4
• Travel to the New York jobs section and go to the Enforcer tier.
• Pick any job and repeat it very quickly around 15 or 20 times.
• Now quickly return to Bangkok to take advantage of the lag to get a chance at getting a Bangkok mastery item.

The whole idea of this method is to take advantage of internet and server lag and trick Zynga into giving you a Bangkok mastery item for a very low cost job. To get the most out of this method I would suggest that it be done during high traffic times to take the best advantage of the system.

It is said that this method works for Bangkok episode one when using New York tier one and Bangkok episode two with New York episode two and so on. I have no first hand knowledge of this or even if it works at all.

As a responsible blogger I do need to warn you however that this trick does not work for everyone or even all of the time. In the past Zynga has indeed “rolled back” accounts that have taken advantage of such vulnerabilities in their system. User beware.

If you have played Mafia Wars for any length of time you have seen the way businesses started out in New York. In the beginning you purchased Mafia Mike’s because it was the standard that could not be robbed. In order to increase your business income you had to purchase plots of land and construct various types of businesses and then purchase insurance to protect them.

The Cuba expansion introduced businesses that could not be robbed. Cuban businesses did not work in the way that New York businesses did. Instead of purchasing property and developing it we were given businesses that we simply upgraded for more money.

This business model remained through the Moscow expansion.

Now we have the Bangkok Expansion. In the orient we were presented with two types of business. Those that can be purchased and upgraded just like Cuba and Moscow.

• Fighting Fish Arena
• Cockfighting Pen
• Tourist Guide Scam
• Gambling Den

Normal purchasable businesses are enhanced by reputation based businesses.

• Gun Running Operation
• Yaa Baa Parlor

Unlike the other four businesses which can be purchased for baht and produce baht the faction based businesses produce boosts that are used in playing the game.

• Black Market Ammo
  +32 Attack Skill
• Hyper Alert Sentry
  +32 Fight Defense Skill

The two distinct types of businesses in Bangkok is an interesting twist to the norm that we have come to know. You can take advantage of the baht earning businesses as well as the faction based ones. If you play your cards right you can not only own fully upgraded standard businesses but BOTH of the faction based ones as well.

Growing your mafia is one of the most important parts of Mafia Wars. Without a strong group of mafia you are destined to fail when it comes to combat against other players. Those two statements are very true and in order to help you grow your mafia into a force to be reckoned with I thought I would share some of my mafia with you.

You can no longer send out mass email invites at Facebook so you will have to use the friend finder tool and enter the email addresses individually. As an alternative you can visit any of dozens of “add me” groups and add your email to their list.

In today’s article I am going to tell you about something that both Zynga and I discourage. Why am I telling you about something that I do not approve of? When I started this blog it was with the intent of bringing useful information to the players of Mafia Wars, including answering as many questions as I can. I have received a number of questions over the last few months regarding how to play Mafia Wars on autopilot.

There is a script that once set up and running allows you to play the game without any intervention on your part. That script is called Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth).

In order to use this script there are a couple of prerequisites.

1. You must be running Firefox

   Getting Firefox is easy. Simply browse to http://www.mozilla.org and click on Firefox and then download and install the latest version. The next step requires that you have Firefox up and running as your browser.

2. Greasemonkey

   Next you will be downloading and installing an Add-on to Firefox called Greasemonkey. Browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748 and click on add to Firefox. Follow the instructions and restart Firefox when told to do so. This will ensure that Greasemonkey is running.

3. Facebook Mafia Wars Autoplayer

   This is the piece of script that will put Mafia Wars on Autopilot. To get this script browse to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/64720 and click on the green “install” button at the top right of the page.

I do not use the script so I cannot give detailed instructions on how to set it up so read everything that you can on the userscripts Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth) page. View the discussions and especially the video tutorial links.

Once you are running Firefox, and have installed both Greasemonkey and Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth) as well as developed a firm understanding of how the script works and how to set it up for your style of play the game will become effortless.
