Mafia Wars On Autopilot

February 17th, 2010

In today’s article I am going to tell you about something that both Zynga and I discourage. Why am I telling you about something that I do not approve of? When I started this blog it was with the intent of bringing useful information to the players of Mafia Wars, including answering as many questions as I can. I have received a number of questions over the last few months regarding how to play Mafia Wars on autopilot.

There is a script that once set up and running allows you to play the game without any intervention on your part. That script is called Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth).

In order to use this script there are a couple of prerequisites.

  1. You must be running Firefox

Getting Firefox is easy. Simply browse to http://www.mozilla.org and click on Firefox and then download and install the latest version. The next step requires that you have Firefox up and running as your browser.

  2. Greasemonkey

Next you will be downloading and installing an Add-on to Firefox called Greasemonkey. Browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748 and click on add to Firefox. Follow the instructions and restart Firefox when told to do so. This will ensure that Greasemonkey is running.

  3. Facebook Mafia Wars Autoplayer

This is the piece of script that will put Mafia Wars on Autopilot. To get this script browse to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/64720 and click on the green “install” button at the top right of the page.

I do not use the script so I cannot give detailed instructions on how to set it up so read everything that you can on the userscripts Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth) page. View the discussions and especially the video tutorial links.

Once you are running Firefox, and have installed both Greasemonkey and Facebook  Mafia Wars Autoplayer (Rebirth) as well as developed a firm understanding of how the script works and how to set it up for your style of play the game will become effortless.

**Disclaimer**

I am neither condoning nor promoting use of third party utilities of any kind. Using this type of utility may result in suspension or even termination of your account and I accept no responsibility for your actions. All information presented here is for educational purposes and/or in reply to questions that have been received.

Mafia Wars Tips

Some Serous Advice on Godfather Points

January 7th, 2010

With Mafia Wars quickly becoming the most popular social networking game on the internet I felt the need to clue the new players and maybe even some of your old veterans in on what Godfather Points are, how to get them, and how to use them.

Godfather Points – A definition

Godfather points or reward points are a form of currency in Mafia Wars. They can be used for a number of things within the game.

Godfather Points – What they can be used for

.These points may be used for a number of things including

  • Full Energy Refill
  • Extra Mafia Members
  • +4 Skill Points
  • Money
  • Full Health Refill
  • Full Stamina Refill
  • New Name
  • Crates
  • Limited Loot

How to acquire Godfather Points

Godfather points can acquired in two ways.

  1. They are earned through leveling your character
  2. They may be purchased in lots of 21, 42, 85, 170, 215, 440, 700 for real world cash.

You used to be able to get Godfather Points by completing offers and doing surveys but it seems that those options have been removed from the game.

Advice on how to spend your Godfather Points

If you have a copy of The Ultimate Mafia Wars Leveling Guide then you already know all of this as well as how to level as quickly as possible using sound time tested strategies. This information is for those who do not have the guide.

If you follow a strict plan on leveling you will never NEED to spend Godfather points on anything. The only thing that I have ever spent any points on is “+4 Skill Points.” I know there are those who will say that buying energy refills are the way to go but I guarantee you that in the long run the skill points will pay off much more.

The bottom line is that other than the points that are earned for leveling Godfather Points cost money but purchasing them is not necessary. If you are someone who wants all of the items available in the game and have the cash to purchase points by all means do so. But…If you are a cheapskate like me you don’t have too.

Mafia Wars Tips

4 Simple Mafia Wars Tips For A Strong Character

December 16th, 2009

I have been playing Mafia Wars for quite some time and have built numerous characters so I thought I would pass along four simple things that are the basis of creating a strong character.

1.) Use your Energy effectively

This is probably the most important thing in Mafia Wars. If you want to level quickly you need to make sure that you put your energy to the best use. Visit one of the bookmarklet pages and pick up a tool to help you determine how to manage your energy when completing jobs.

2.) Linear Jobs

Complete jobs in a linear manner for the best results in the long run. If you are starting a new character begin with the Street Thug tier and complete all three levels of it before moving on. Resist the urge to jump around on the tiers simply because you are high enough level for them. This holds true for expansion as well. Visit them to get your business started then forget about them except for collecting your business payouts.

3.) Build a Strong Mafia

Spend time visiting add me pages or add me email pages to build your mafia. Only 500 of your mafia may participate in a fight but having a huge mafia is a boon in and of itself. Some of the advantages of having a large mafia are completing collections and re-vaulting for boosts. You will be surprised how quickly you can finish out collections and get the bonuses by simply asking for the items. Always be sure to gift in return when you can as well.

4.) Equip Your Mafia

Your mafia is only as strong as the equipment that you provide them. When you enter into combat you will provide each of the 500 members of your mafia with an offensive weapon, a defensive item, and a vehicle. Having the best is a way to ensure that you are a formidable enemy for anyone who chooses to attack you.

These four tips might seem like “no-brainers” but you would be surprised at how many people do not follow these simple ideas. Many are racing to get to the highest level they can and pay little or no attention to building and equipping a strong mafia. Others have no idea how to maximize their energy or where to find a bookmarklet to help. Use these simple tips to make your Mafia Wars experience more enjoyable.

What You Need To Know About Facebook Changes

December 15th, 2009

Recently Facebook announced changes being made to the privacy settings of its users. While these changes are designed to make things easier and simpler for its users is it more of a pain in the butt than helpful? You decide.

The default settings for the new privacy features will make all of your information available not only to the 350 million Facebook users as well as search engines such as Yahoo, Google and others.

Does this open up your account to even more danger in the form of hackers, scammers and other unscrupulous entities? I believe that it can, but you can do more to protect yourself by tweaking the following settings.

Search Settings

With the release of these new privacy settings all accounts were set to a default configuration. This configuration includes resetting your public search settings to the on mode. This setting means that you are allowing your information to be seen by any search engine. If you do not want your information to be available to anyone who wants to see it you need to reset the option to the off mode.

Hyper Control

It seems that with the new “privacy” features Facebook is actually removing some of your control over who can and cannot view your information. If you want to have more control over who can see updates, photos, etc all you have to do is go to the Privacy Settings > Profile section and you can decide who can see your information.

Friends List

While Facebook generally controls your friends list you do have some control you do have control over who can see it. If you want your friends list to remain private (as I do) all you have to do is click on your profile link at the top of the page, then look for a pen icon next to your friends list. When you click this icon simply remove the check mark in front of “Show Friends List to everyone.” Should you want to allow your Friends List to be seen by specific people you can enter their name in the box in this area as well.

Password Protection

One of the smartest things that rolled out with these privacy upgrades was the requirement to enter your password to make any privacy changes. This step would go a very long way to keeping your account safe and hackers on the run if it only worked as intended. It seems that though the system is in place it needs a bit of tweaking by face book.

While Facebook has rolled these changes out under the façade of “more secure privacy” in my opinion is that they have implemented these changes to give search engines more access to its members and thereby increasing their search engine revenue. Not only do these new privacy settings allow search engines to readily see your information they also open up your email address to spammers.

If you want your personal information to remain personal you need to adjust your settings to limit search engine access as much as possible.

Happy Halloween – Ghosts, Goblins, and LOOT!

October 31st, 2009

Happy Halloween to all of you! Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year and has been since I was just a little mobling. It is the time of year where the kids get all dressed up and invade our neighborhoods. I have always loved handing out candy and playing trick on them. This year to keep in the Mafia Wars spirit I bought candy guns and am offering them to the neighborhood kids.

Zynga seems to like holidays too and Halloween is no exception. Every holiday we get new and fun loot items to collect and give away. This year we can send our mafia and those on our friends list a Ghost Thug, The Scooby-Do Mystery van, and a Teat Bag.

In other happenings for Halloween we have been given a special Limited Time Job

Rob A Candy Truck
Experience: Varies
Energy Cost: Varies

Completion of the job awards the following:

Treat Bag -  18 Attack / 15 Defense

All in all not too bad of an item, believe me there are worse items that come out of crates that you have to pay Godfather points for. The only catch to this job is that it can only be done once per day but each completion award 75% job mastery

Of course you can also get your hands on some pretty decent items just by doing jobs during the Halloween event. Here is a list.

Weapons

Bloody Poker Chips – 22 Attack / 10 Defense

Fake Vampire Teeth – 34 Attack / 15 Defense

Laser Squirrel – 43 Attack / 12 Defense

Armor

YoZombie – 21 Attack / 18 Defense

Monkey Brain Stew – 2 Attack / 27 Defense

Vehicles

Kraken – 24 Attack / 41 Defense

Looney Plague Cow – 25 Attack / 15 Defense

Dead End – 32 Attack / 20 Defense

I always look forward to holiday game events. Online Massively Multiplayer Games have always had some pretty interesting things from the events back in Everquest (which usually got me killed repeatedly) to the events that Blizzard holds in World of Warcraft. I am glad that Zynga has added holiday fun to Social Network Games as well.

Tomorrow is Halloween so be sure to stock up on goodies for all of the little goblins, ghost, pirates, etc that will be invading your neighborhood and if you are out driving be sure to keep your eyes open for them as well.

Top Mafia Spots – Leveling Tip

October 29th, 2009

If you have purchased a copy of the Ultimate Mafia Wars Leveling guide you already know that getting your character into the top mafia of other players is very important in the leveling scheme.

There are a couple of ways that you can ensure that you get the best bonuses by being in the top mafia of other players.

The first is probably the easiest. All you have to do is create two more facebook (or any social network you are on) accounts add them to your main characters mafia and then place your main character in the appropriate spots on each of their top mafias. Yes this is the easiest way and probably the smartest way to go if you want to level in a hurry but for me it is the least satisfying.

The other way to get into the top mafia of your mafia members is through work. Once you have gained level 299 you give top bonuses on Wheelman, Buttonman, and Bagman along with the 49,999 or more fights for bodyguard, jobs for mastermind, or heists for safecracker you will find yourself on the top mafia of quite a few players. Of course the positions that you can actually fill are based on your character class.

The only spot that you should have trouble filling regardless of class or level is safecracker since robbing (heists) seems to have gone on hiatus for awhile. If you can find someone with 49,999 or more heists you better hold on to them since it seems they will be extinct unless Zynga puts robbing back into the game.

Once you have reached the milestones listed above and can be fairly positive that you are on the top mafia of other players you can take your main character off of the top mafia of your secondary accounts so they are cleared up for the next character that you want to level.

Remember one of the most important secrets to leveling is getting your character into the proper spots on someone else’s top mafia. You can do this with alternate characters of your own until you have attained the proper level, number of jobs, fights won, and number of heists (good luck on that) to be a solid member of the top mafia for others.

I hope that this tip has helped you and I will see you in the shadows.

Hitlist Hi-Jinx For Experience And Fun

October 21st, 2009

Mafia Wars is one of the best, if not the best Social Network game out at the moment appealing to players who want to quietly go about their business leveling by doing jobs and those who want to level through fighting.

I have characters of both types but I think that my fighting characters are much more fun. On these characters I do jobs but spend the vast majority of my time fighting and working the hitlist and I am going to tell you exactly what I do and how you can love it as well. If you follow these instructions you will find that you will start enjoying the hitlist as much as I do.

Set Up

1.) Make sure that your mafia is at least at the 501 member maximum.

2.) Use the gifting methods that I teach in The Ultimate Mafia Wars Leveling Guide to ensure that you have 501 of the top defensive items.

3.) Change your title to a lower one. Lower titles attract lower level hit men.

4.) Have your buddies put you on the hitlist repeatedly, or do it with another of your characters.

Once you have the set up listed above you are ready to start working the defensive hitlist. The object is to get your character put on the hitlist and fight defensive battles, save offensive fighting for another character.

When your character is put on the hitlist make sure that the amount that is set is toward the lower end of the spectrum. A lower bounty has two effects that benefit your defensive concept.

First the lower bounty will eliminate all but the most bored heavy hitters since most of the big guns go for the most cash. This will help keep you alive longer.

Second the lower bounty will attract newer and less experienced players who are looking to make a quick buck. Your 501 mafia members and 501 of decent defensive items should chew them up pretty quick.

This strategy is great for the type of player who likes to play the game for longer periods of time each day simply because working the hitlist demands that you keep yourself healed.

The best advice I can give is to use the hospital button to refresh your screen so you keep an accurate view on your health but only heal yourself when necessary.

Of course this method is not fool proof. You will die on the hitlist…and that is a fact. Occasionally one of the big guns will get bored and squash you like a bug but in the long run you will earn some good experience and cash.

Working the hitlist is a method requires that you are at your computer to work and is NOT a fire and forget strategy. Beef your character up with 501 mafia and 501 of the best defensive items before you attempt this. Use the hospital button to refresh but heal only when necessary. If you follow this strategy you WILL die but the rewards are worth it.

How to Maximize Leveling by Minimizing Repetitive Tasks

October 19th, 2009

When you are concentrating on leveling a new character in Mafia Wars or even an old one the key to success is time management. You want every second that you spend playing to pay off through earning experience and leveling. Today I am going to revisit an old topic to help you do just that.

Mafia Wars automation is a topic that I have posted on before but I think that from time to time it deserves to be revisited. The faster that you can do the mundane tasks associated with the game the faster you will level and thus squeeze every drop of experience out of you play time.

One of the best things that you can do to cut down on the repetitive and time consuming tasks that slow you down is to use Mafia Wars bookmarklets. Bookmarklets are small pieces of code that have been created for ease of use and to automate aspects of the game to make them much easier for us as players.

All that you have to do to use most bookmarklets is simply drag them from the page that they are on and drop them onto the bookmark bar or right click and choose add to favorites. Below we will discuss some very helpful bookmarklets and where you can find them.

Spockholm’s Mafia Wars Bookmarklets

http://www.spockholm.com/mafia/bookmarklets.php

Repeat Gift – Getting gifts is one of the easiest ways to equip a brand new character in the least amount of time. If you are following or have followed my Ultimate Mafia Wars Leveling Guide you already know this but I am going to let this secret out for everyone.

When you start a new character you can use one of your more established characters to supply the new one with all the things that they need such as 501 Armored State Cars, Canonazo, and Track Loaders. While the easiest way is gifting these items who wants to click “send gift” thousands of times. If you use the Repeat Gift bookmarklet you wont have to.

ExpEnergy – This bookmarklet is essential if you want to wring every ounce of experience out of your energy pool. It displays the experience versus energy ratio of each job allowing you to maximize energy output and should be in the arsenal of any Mafia Wars player who is even thinking about speed leveling.

LimitedLoot - Make buying limited loot on your Mafia Wars home page easy. Tell this bookmarklet how many you want to buy and it will go to work for you.

AttackX – This is a super utility for those who love to fight. The bookmarklet asks how many attacks you want to make and already has your available stamina filled in but of course you can dictate how much or how little to use. Important information such as experience gained, money gained and more are displayed during your attack spree.

RobX – I know that at the moment robbing seems to be up in the air but if it is reinstated this bookmarklet allows you to continue to rob and works much like AttackX above.

RepeatJob – Hooray no more clicking on those jobs that you must do hundreds of times to get consumable items. This bookmarklet will continue doing the specified job until you are out of energy.

This is just a partial list of the bookmarklets that are available. There are many more that automate everything from purchasing Mafia Mike’s to adding members to your mafia. More can be found on the following pages.

Bobby Heartrates’s Mafia Tools – http://www.heartrate.se/

Vern’s Mafia Wars Tools – http://www.vern.com/mwtools/

The key to power leveling in Mafia Wars is getting the most experience out of every second that you play. Mundane everyday tasks such as gifting, job grinding, adding mafia members, and more not only slow down your advancement, they are boring. Use bookmarklets to automate gaming experience to maximize leveling ability and avoid boredom.

Newbie Education Project for Mafia Wars

October 9th, 2009

While I am learning more about Rackets I thought I would pass along some advice for new Mafia Wars players. With the popularity of the game it is inevitable that there will be literally thousands of players joining us each and every day and it is up to us to teach them the “ropes” so to speak.

If you decide to start an organized clan, teach the new members good “netiquette” early on and you will be much better off. Oh, you don’t know what a clan is? That’s easy; a clan is a group of players who have organized under one name. You have seen them and maybe not even noticed or understood.

Take a look at the fight section of the game and you will see some players have initials in brackets before their name. This is their clan affiliation. Tomorrow I will give you a list of the clans that I know of so you can better understand what the numbers, letters, and symbols mean.

Here are a few things that you can teach your players to do and not to do in order to be a better social network citizen.

1.) Gifting

Gifting is wonderful and everyone should participate if they can. The annoying part comes when a player publishes every gift that they give. It is much better just to gift and skip the publishing.

2.) Lotto

We all play the lotto with most of hoping for one of the super rare items from the Daily Chance Collection. Believe me they are rare, I have almost 30 accounts and have yet to get even one piece and I play every day.

Teach your young players not to publish their lotto numbers. No one cares what their numbers were and it just clutters up everyone’s wall.

3.) Hitlisting

If you have been put on the hitlist there is a reason for it, most likely because you have been a pain in the ass to someone else. Remember that the person who claimed your bounty is just a person doing a job so don’t hitlist them. If you must hitlist someone then hitlist the person who paid the bounty in the first place, they are the one that caused you to be attacked.

4.) Wishlist

There is nothing wrong with posting your wishlist to your wall however doing it 20 times per day is annoying. Also, you should try to get all the collections items before going for the big stuff.

5.) Multiple Attacks

Attacking another player is part of the game but you should not get your jollies by attacking the same player repeatedly. Yes you know you can beat them at present but would you like someone doing that to you? Show a little class by and hit them a couple of time and move on to another target.

This advice does not apply to those on the hitlist since the object is to kill the character and collect a bounty. Hit these people as hard and as fast as you can.

6.) Complaining

Say you get attacked from the fight list 10 times in a row from the same person, get used to it and don’t whine about it. Yes, the person that attacked you is doing exactly what I told you not to do, but ultimately attacks are part of the game and you have to deal with it.

7.) Job Bonuses

ALWAYS post your job bonuses to the wall so others can help you and earn some experience and some cash along the way.

8.) Achievements

Only post important achievements on your wall.

These tidbits of advice will go a very long way to ensuring that you are looked upon as a considerate and thoughtful player not only in Mafia Wars but in all of the social network games that you play not to mention the networks themselves.
