Robbing: a Comprehensive Primer
Apr/102
Not long ago robbing returned to Mafia Wars and like many new and improved features it has changed in form. Today’s post is a comprehensive primer for those of you who would like to know a bit more about the robbing feature.
Crunching the Numbers
To determine the winner of a robbery attempt there is a formula that is used to determine the outcome. As near as I can discover it goes something like this
Attack Power
Attack Stat (your attack statistic)+ sum of attack points from equipment + boosts+ a random number = Attack Power
Defensive Power
Defense Stat (your defense statistic)+ sum of defensive points from equipment + boosts+ a random number = Defensive Power
The random number is exactly that and the developers have said, and I quote “We roll a giant die.” The random number designed to give a sense of…well for a lack of a better word, randomness to robbery attempts.
If you are not a number cruncher the process is attack power of the robber versus the defensive power of the player being robbed, the highest wins.
Why People Rob
There are a number of reasons that you may be robbed.
1.) Loot
This is the most obvious of reasons. There are collections that can only be completed by robbing. The Stolen Diamond collection gives a permanent boost to chances of winning when robbing.
2.) Experience
When you win while robbing you can earn experience in a higher ratio that you would when doing jobs. This is a boon to the high stamina character.
3.) Robbing Mastery
As you complete robberies you earn Robbing Mastery. As you gain mastery the experience award goes up and your chances of winning do as well.
Robbing has returned to Mafia Wars in a new and interesting form. If you have always wanted to participate in the robbing feature but did not understand how it worked you should have a firm grasp of the basic concepts now. Tomorrow I will post more on robbing and go into more detail.

Hey Phil,
Do you think its better to rob players now or continue attacking them? What gives the most experience and loot?

It seems that the experience award is similar for both so I would say do what you enjoy the most.
